Laminate flooring has become very popular in the past few years mainly because of its durability and reasonable price with the finished look of real hardwood.Available almost anywhere and very simple to install enen for the novist DIY.Here are some helpfull installation tips. You will need a Laminate Floor Install Kit,Mitre saw, Jigsaw,Hammer,Tape Measure and a pencil.
First measure out the area you will be installing the flooring in and always remember to add 10% on top of your final amount to make sure there is extra flooring for mistakes and replacing damaged pieces.Allow the laminate to sit the room for at least 12 to 24 hours to allow the flooring to acclimate to the temperature and humidity inside the home.
The floor must be prepared prior to installation, remove any nails, stables or loose debris.Make sure the floor is level and screw down any movement or shifts in the floor.
The next step is to install the underlayment by rolling it out on the floor and the edges should be butted together. If installing on a concrete floor then include a layer of plastic sheeting as a vapor barrier first.Make sure you use the proper underlayment for either glued laminate installation or glueless.
It is a good idea to install the laminate floor parallel to the longest side of the wall in the room.Always startby installing the first three or four rows away from the wall. Once you have the first three rows together, push the flooring against the wall and continue until you reach the end.Once you reach the end of the wall you might have to cut the end piece to fit, you can use the piece you have left fot continue another row so that the planks are always stagered.Make sure the joints click together smoothly, if not remove and try again. Its a good idea to cut very slowly to minimize the chipping when using the saw and always measure twice to avoid mistakes.
If installing laminate flooring seems to much for you to handle then a profesionl contracter can do if for you with out the added mistakes if your not very handy.Remember to leave a quarter of an inch from the wall to the lamintate to allow it room to expand and contract.
